Art is the great connector of humanity. Every culture, every age, has made art. We can see this through archaeological digs as old as 500,000 years!
Every child, given the opportunity, makes art. The trick is to continue to make art into adulthood. So many of us stop.
It’s seen as childish or weird. A hobby and definitely not a viable career option. Perhaps even lumping the artists into being considered weird.
But we need all kinds of people to help our species evolve culturally, and artists are essential.
I’m a formally trained artist with a love of portraiture. A career, I was assured, would never happen. And so it didn’t for a very long time.
And then it did.
